Hidden Trophies⁚ Unlocking The Secrets

Puzzle Piece 1/4 – Right after getting into the spring suit, jump to the left and land on the button to raise some platforms, then jump up to the left again to find this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – After reaching the first wire pull while going up the wall, jump up off the left side of the tilting platform to reach this puzzle piece. The levels are shorter and more numerous, they present more variety in aesthetics, secrets are better hidden here, encouraging exploration, and there’s just more to find, as well. The hub area is also more appealing and calls for more exploration. It also shows you all your collectibles – aka the bots – scattered throughout it, unlike the Playroom, which leaves all its collectibles – the artifacts – in one room.

It deserves a place among the greats though – Astro’s Playroom has the coherence, character and abundance of ideas, executed with real clarity, of the very best platformers. Astro’s Playroom first launched in 2020 as a pre-installed PS5 exclusive that highlighted the DualSense controller’s features. The platformer also paved the way for the successful Astro Bot, Team Asobi’s hit game from 2024 that earned numerous Game of The Year awards.
Nearby the Horizon easter egg is an island with a bot making a blocky T. This references 2020’s Dreams on PS4, developed by Media Molecule. The game is about making assets and even entire games from scratch. At the start of GPU Jungle, check along the left-hand side between two trees for a lower section with four Bots with various weapons on their backs huddled around a campfire. This is a reference to 2002’s Monster Hunter on PS2, developed by Capcom.

GPU Jungle is the fourth and final zone in the game, with Artefacts covering the PlayStation 4 era from 2013 to 2019. This zone’s suit is the Monkey Suit, which you control with the Adaptive Triggers and the SIXAXIS.

Puzzle Piece 2/4 – From the next checkpoint, go to the left to find a cave area with this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – When you reach the area with the monkey bars, you can reach this puzzle piece to the left side of the second one. Artifact 2/3 “Playstation Portable” – After riding the rotating platform, there is a switch on the other side which creates a lily pad platform back to the right.

Go back along to the front of the blue pipes and the sandstorm, and this time, go along the outside on the right. Go past the PlayStation face button symbols in the sand, and punch the shell tucked away under the pipe towards the end. To solve the riddle, jump up to the circular platforms above this area, where on the far side, you’ll see a little clock on the column.
Artifact 1/2 “PlayStation Memory Card” – Just ahead there will be a split in the road with a path on the left with a danger sign. Artifact 2/2 “PlayStation Mouse” – In the section where you are meant to jump across the clouds, instead of going towards the checkpoint you should jump onto the cliff ledges which lead higher up. From there you can climb up to the top section on the right to find this artifact. Puzzle Piece 2/4– In the area with the first blowing cloud, run against the wind to grab this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 4/4 – When you exit the caves and are out of the ship, drop down to the lower floor to find this puzzle piece underneath some glass. Artifact 2/2 “PS2 Memory Card” – Hold both triggers down fullying to puh yourself through the two purple spiderwebs to find this artifact on the other side.
After activating that tightrope, head back to the starting area and look near the two obelisks to find some cables in the ground hidden amongst the grass. Pulling these will give you a small projectile you can throw, so take it and cross the tightrope you activated. To start the path to collecting and saving the Special Bot in the Memory Meadow, start at the Gusty Gateway and progress until you reach a tightrope after walking past the island with the strong winds. In fact, the only use of the DualSense that seemed superfluous to me was the microphone. I’ve seen uses like blowing into a mic to get an in-game fan to move since the days of the original Nintendo DS, so it doesn’t necessarily bring anything all that fresh here.
These bots are often hidden in clever locations, requiring players to solve minor puzzles or perform specific actions to rescue them. Finding and rescuing these Special Bots unlocks unique trophies, adding another layer of collectibility and fan service to the game. But the joy of Astro’s Playroom, while largely focused on its use of the new controller, is also thanks to Team Asobi’s dedication to turning this pack-in into a mini-museum of PlayStation history.
When first arriving on Bot Beach off the slide, head right and look for the orange boat in the water with a bearded man and a small Bot in it. This references the 2018 God of War on PS4, also developed by SIE Santa Monica Studio. The composition of this easter egg is specifically mimicking the box art of the game.
